The Springwood Center Mixed-Use Building is seen as one of the critical components in the redevelopment of the west side of Asbury Park. The building provides commercial uses on the first floor, affordable housing on the third floor and a permanent home for the Asbury Park Senior Center on the second floor. The building is conceived as making a bold statement in terms of its form and architectural presence. It features a "transparent" storefront base capped by a corrugated aluminum "canopy" with canted planes which slope outward; providing sun shades for the east and south facing windows. At the corner itself, the building is peeled back such that the mass of the building is eroded to soften it's presence in what will become a busy pedestrian area.
